Fifty: 50 Years 50 Species
About the book
Just over 50 years ago, a small group of people met one cold November evening in a school hall in Oxford. This small band of naturalists understood that urgent action was needed to protect the natural world from threat, so they committed themselves to work to halt the needless destruction of our wild places and wildlife. And so the Wildlife Trust was born.
Today, the actions of those early pioneers of the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) mean that we can still enjoy a host of spectacular wild plants and animals in their natural habitats. We have a huge amount to thank those founding members for: Fifty is a tribute to them.
As you turn the pages of this beautiful book we hope you will be awed by the sheer beauty of our wildlife and enjoy reading about the ways in which BBOWT has helped to protect it.
We have chosen just 50 species to showcase, but it could so easily have been 500, if only we had the space... There are just so many stories to tell! But one thing is certain: it would have been a very different story had BBOWT never existed and with your continuing support we look forward to the next 50 years
