Paul has worked in biodiversity conservation and management for over 20 years,
including periods in Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey,
Madagascar and the Middle East. During five years at the International Council for Bird Preservation
(now BirdLife International), Paul coordinated or managed over 300 projects around the world,
from small expeditions to large multilateral aid-funded projects. He established Naturebureau
in 1986. From 1991 he served, part-time, as the first Executive Director of the newly formed
Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, until a full-time Executive Director was
appointed in 1996.
Paul is familiar with the major conventions relating to international wildlife conservation
(Ramsar, Bonn/CMS, Bern, CITES, World Heritage and Biological Diversity). He is a member of the
IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and has served as Editor of their journal, PARKS, since 1991.

Sarah has a First Class Joint Honours Degree in Zoology with Marine Zoology from the University College
of North Wales, Bangor, and a Masters Degree in Conservation from University College, London. She has worked
in marine ecology, conservation and management for over 25 years, and was Deputy Head of the former Nature
Conservancy Council’s Marine Science Branch. In 1989, she joined Naturebureau as Director of Marine and
Coastal Services.
Sarah is also active in the voluntary sector, including as a co-founder of the UK Shark Trust and European
Elasmobranch Association (she is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the former and President of the
latter). She is co-chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Shark Specialist Group
In 2004, Sarah was awarded the OBE for services to marine conservation in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List,
and in 2005 she was appointed a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation.

Peter has recently become a Fellow of The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).
The RSA encourages the development of a principled, prosperous society running a programme of projects and lectures based
around five manifesto challenges:

 | Moving towards a Zero-waste Society; |
 | Developing a Capable Population; |
 | Fostering Resilient Communities; and |
 | Advancing Global Citizenship. |
Peter has a degree in Fine Art and is a keen amateur botanist with a wide knowledge of wildlife
and geography. He was previously art director of an advertising agency and has been involved in design
and publishing for over 20 years. He was on the Editorial Board of Natural World for eight years.
Since joining Naturebureau in 1990, he has transformed the publications of numerous local and
international wildlife and conservation bodies and has created corporate identities for a wide range of
organisations, including the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and the Shark Trust.
He also oversees the Bureau's in-house imprint, Pisces Publications.

Barbara has a BA Honours degree in Fine Art, followed by over 20 years professional design
experience in advertising and publishing. She was formerly Art Director in an advertising agency,
joining Naturebureau in 1995. Barbaras work includes sub-editing, design, and print management
for a wide variety of publications, from 400 page books to leaflets.

Justine graduated from Bath University in 2006 where she received a BA Honours degree in New Media. Her skills are in Graphic Design, Photography, Web Design and Multimedia.She is proficient in creating typographic design, motion graphics which include interface and interactive design such as PowerPoint presentations, promo reels and animated graphics for digital media. She continues to develop her knowledge of accessibility and web standards to ensure her work can reach the greatest audience.

Before joining the NatureBureau in 2007, Diana worked in the scientific publishing industry for 15 years. She has a mix of marketing, relationship management and business development experience. During her time in the publishing industry she was Head of Marketing for a large environmental science books and journals programme, and more recently she directed the management of a portfolio of psychology products and services.

Zbigniew Karpowicz has a PhD in land use planning, with special reference to design of
protected areas in Eastern Europe. He specialises in developing biodiversity conservation projects
for EU and World Bank environment funds, and has recently worked on programmes in Romania,
Bulgaria and Kazakhstan.
