The Flora of the Bristol Region is the first detailed account of the plants found in this exceptionally diverse area to be published for almost 90 years. It is the culmination of a 15-year Flora Project to record the plants, over 1,600 of them, found within every one kilometre grid square in the Bristol region (the area formerly known as the County of Avon). Highly detailed maps show the distribution of species in a range of habitats including the limestone grasslands of the Mendip and Cotswold Hills; the saltmarshes along the Severn Estuary; rivers, including the Avon and Frome; and the low-lying Levels and Moors with their varied wetland flora. Introductory chapters cover such topics as the habitats and vegetation types of the Bristol region, sites of botanical interest, including the world-famous Avon Gorge, and the recent history of field botany, including the history of our Flora Project, and botanists in the area.
