The Butterflies of Hampshire

This is the first ever comprehensive account of the butterfly fauna of Hampshire. Compiled over the last 10 years, The Butterflies of Hampshire presents detailed descriptions of all the butterflies found in the county. Each species is illustrated, and its distribution, habitat and foodplant, major sites, population trend and size, flight period, and earliest and latest dates are all detailed for the period 1990—1999.

Described by Sir David Attenborough in his Foreword as a “ … well documented and readable book”, this publication is essential reading for butterfly enthusiasts and conservationists in Hampshire and beyond. Indeed, it contains such a wealth of information that it is much more than an account of the county’s habitats and butterflies as they are today and have been in the past — it is also a considerable investment in their future.

The Moths of Hampshire

Moths of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has taken eight years to compile and provides comprehensive details of the current status of nearly 1,900 species of moth. Further background information on foodplants, changes in distribution, important habitats and conservation is also provided. Distribution maps are included for the first time covering almost 800 of the macro-moths and Pyralids. Sixteen pages of full colour plates, taken by a wide selection of photographers, illustrate the major habitat types and a broad range of moth species to be found in the two counties. Some of these species have rarely been photographed before.

The Dragonflies of Hampshire

This is the first ever book devoted entirely to the dragonfly fauna of Hampshire, produced by a team of dragonfly experts, drawn largely from the county, whose knowledge and experience ensure that the information is reliable and as comprehensive as possible.

The book has seven main sections:

The geology and hydrology of Hampshire
The human influence on dragonflies
Habitat types
A systematic list of species covering distribution, major localities, population sizes, flight times, early and late dates
Key sites
Conservation in Hampshire
Dragonfly recording in Hampshire plus a full bibliography.
Full-colour throughout
Photographs and distribution maps for every species
